How much should you spend on a mattress?

How much should you spend on a mattress?

How much should you spend on a mattress?

Mattresses can vary hugely in price, and run into the thousands, but the general rule is you should buy the best quality mattress that you can afford at the time. So you can enjoy better sleep for as long as possible.

Given that we spend a third of our lives asleep, and that good quality sleep is so integral to our health and well-being, it’s worth narrowing down the type of mattress that will be most suitable and spending some time researching the various options.

Thankfully, the most expensive does not always mean the most comfortable, so you’ll still sleep soundly on the less expensive kind, however, you should expect to replace it sooner.

Also, consider how often the mattress will be used. For example, you can easily spend less on a mattress for a guest room than for a master bed.

So, how much should I spend on a new mattress?

Too cheap, and the mattress will be thin, uncomfortable, and badly made. Make your investment go further by taking good care of your mattress and using a mattress protector to ward off stains and spills.

What affects the cost of a mattress?

The size, type, filling, and materials used will all effect the price of a mattress, and if it is new, used or refurbished

Memory foam mattresses tend to be the most affordable, while traditional spring, pocket sprung, and hybrid mattresses can cost more. Bespoke, handmade, all-natural material mattresses are the most expensive.

Outside of raw materials and labour, there is also the cost of transport and logistics, where it is made, the retailer mark up, cost of retail space (or not for online sellers) and associated advertising and marketing costs that can all bump up the price.

What are the best affordable mattresses?

The best-selling, award-winning Hybrid® Original Mattress is made with our signature tech, sitting at the top of our wallet-friendly Comfort range. It’s also suitable for recycling via the specialist Mattress Recycling Service on our website, thanks to our mindful mix of materials, with a risk-free 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee and finance options available. You can get it in every size, from a single up to a super king, to European sizes.

Simba’s range of mattresses suit all budgets, from the affordable Hybrid® Essential up to the Deluxe range’s Hybrid® Ultra; our plushest, most indulgent model. You can always improve the comfort of a less expensive mattress with a luxurious topper.

These are the perfect option if your budget doesn’t quite stretch to a brand new mattress. Our toppers offer an instant boost of comfort to any mattress, in any standard UK size.

Whether you’re after Single Toppers, Double Toppers, King Toppers or Super King Mattress Toppers, they’re packed with some of our signature Simba tech for a more comfortable rest – like our Aerocoil® micro springs. Our top tip? Take them with you on trips away. For the Simba support you love, wherever you are.
