Mattresses by Age Group

While every child is different, one thing that’s true across the board is that their sleep needs change as they grow. That’s why we’ve designed a series of high-quality mattresses, each built to meet and exceed the needs of your child at their current stage of development.

Baby & Cot Mattresses

Baby and cot mattresses need to be flat and firm (to minimise the risk of suffocation) yet comfortable and breathable enough to provide your child with the support and comfort they need at night.

Our award-winning Hybrid® Cot Bed Mattress is the perfect example of that. It can safely support your baby in a neutral position, which is the best way for their growing body to rest and recover without twisting or straining.

Toddler Mattresses

Toddlers between the ages of 1 and 3 need a more responsive and cushioned mattress that can accommodate their changing shape, weight, and size. And that’s exactly how the toddler side of our Hybrid® Cot Bed Mattress was designed.

It features our patented Aerocoil® microsprings, which will respond to your toddler’s every movement. We also packed the mattress with firmer springs around the edges to provide extra support and prevent your child from dipping as they play or stand up.

Kids Single Mattresses

For older children (3+ years), comfort and support become even more important. As their bodies grow and weight increases, a medium-firm children’s mattress like our Hybrid® Kids Mattress becomes essential for a comfortable and genuinely restful night’s sleep.

Our Hybrid® Kids Mattress features the same ground-breaking sleep tech that we’ve used in our adult mattress - it’s just specifically designed for children aged 3 and over. If maintained and well looked after, the mattress can provide the same reliable support well into the teenage years of your child.

What to Look for in a Kids Mattress

When buying a mattress for your child, there are several factors that we would recommend you take into consideration. They include:

Safety & Certifications

It goes without saying that the mattress you give your child should not only be comfortable but also meet the highest safety standards. When shopping for a mattress, the safety labels and certifications that we recommend you look for include:

  • BS 7177: The strongest fire safety standard for mattresses in the UK
  • NBF Membership: Confirms the manufacturer has been independently audited
  • ISO 9001: An internationally recognised QMS standard that ensures consistent quality

At Simba, we like to lead by example. That’s why all of our kids’ mattresses tick all of these boxes, giving every parent the peace of mind they need while their child is asleep at night.

Firmness for Growing Bodies

Your child needs a different level of firmness at every stage of their development. So, before buying just any mattress, take the firmness of the mattress you’re considering into account, and think about whether it’s built to meet your child’s specific needs at their current age.

To make buying the right mattress easier, at Simba, we designed and manufactured two types of mattresses that parents can choose from, depending on the current age of their child. We have the two-sided Hybrid® Cot Bed Mattress, which is perfect for babies and toddlers, and the Hybrid® Kids Mattress, which is suited for children over the age of 3.

Hypoallergenic Materials

During your child’s early years, they are more prone to skin sensitivities and allergic reactions. So, when you’re shopping around for a mattress, make sure that the one you’re considering is made from hypoallergenic materials that are free from harmful chemicals and common irritants.

To give parents complete peace of mind, all Simba kids’ mattresses are crafted using the highest quality materials. Our mattresses are also CertiPUR® verified, which means they’re free from ozone depleters, mercury, lead, heavy metals, and have low VOC emissions.

Waterproof & Easy-Clean Options

Children are brilliant at making a mess. So, if you don’t want to feel frustrated after every spillage or nighttime accident, it’s worth looking for a mattress with a removable and washable cover - or at the very least, a built-in waterproof layer. This is one of those features that is easily overlooked when buying, but can save you a lot of time and frustration in the long run.

Why Choose Simba for Your Child's Mattress?

Our award-winning baby and kids' mattresses aren’t a scaled-down version of our adult range. They are built to meet the very specific needs of your child’s growing body at every stage of their development.

From the materials we have used to the firmness of each mattress and the support they offer, we’ve thought about every detail. In addition to that, all our mattresses for children also come with an industry-leading guarantee and free next-day delivery. The Hybrid® Kids Mattress also comes with a 200-night free trial.

  • What type of mattress is best for babies?

A firm, flat mattress, such as our Hybrid® Cot Bed Mattress, is the best and safest choice for babies between 0 and 12 months. Overly plush, soft, or cushioned mattresses can increase the risk of suffocation, so it’s best to avoid them.

Our Hybrid® Cot Bed Mattress is also double-sided. For the first year of your child’s life, you can use the firmer side, and once they grow up a little, you can flip the mattress to the softer side, which is perfect for toddlers up to 3 years of age.

  • What is the best mattress for a child?

It depends on the age of your child. If your child is between 0 and 3 years old, our two-sided Hybrid® Cot Bed Mattress is the perfect option for them. If your child is 3 and over, then they’d be better suited to our Hybrid® Kids Mattress.

  • How firm should a baby mattress be?

Current guidance from the NHS recommends parents use a flat and firm baby mattress, as it will help reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Mattresses that are too soft can cause a baby’s head to sink in, which can restrict their airway during sleep and cause them to suffocate.

  • When should I move my child to a single mattress?

Most children are ready to move away from their baby or toddler mattress once they’re two to three years old. By then, your child should be mobile enough and be close to outgrowing their cot bed anyway. Every child is different, so let their size and individual development guide your decision.

  • Can I use a Simba kids mattress on a bunk bed?

Yes, you can. Our Hybrid® Kids Mattress is specifically designed to fit standard UK bunk bed frames. It measures 90cm (W) x 190cm (L). Still, before buying, take a tape measure, double-check the internal dimensions of your child’s bunk bed, and make sure that it can accommodate our kids bed mattress.
