1. What is a weighted blanket?

A weighted blanket is a soft, heavy blanket filled with small but weighted objects. The Orbit uses glass nano-beads to add weight; it’s designed to make the user feel gently hugged.

2. What is the science behind weighted blankets?

According to studies, a weighted blanket can engage a process known as 'deep pressure therapy'. Which relaxes the user, giving them a feeling of comfort and safety. Some studies have shown that the use of deep pressure therapy leads to lower stress, less anxiety and better sleep. You can read more about it here.

3. Who are weighted blankets good for?

Adults who want a really deep night's sleep. Which means The Orbit™ may be especially useful for those having trouble sleeping because of stress, worry or restlessness.

4. Who are weighted blankets not suitable for?

Children, the elderly, anyone suffering from breathing difficulties or circulatory issues (including diabetes). As a guide, we recommend you only use the Orbit if you can lift it above your head unassisted. In cases of pregnancy and kidney issues, consult your doctor before use.

5. Can I use the Orbit™ blanket overnight? Does it get too hot?

Yes, you can use it at night; it’s designed to be used as a duvet. It comes with a removable and washable, breathable cotton cover to support air circulation.

6. What conditions does a weighted blanket help with?

There is anecdotal (and some research) evidence that sleeping under a heavy, weighted blanket can be used to aid stress, anxiety, restlessness and insomnia.

7. Will the blanket help with my stress & anxiety?

There are numerous reports of weighted blankets helping to reduce stress and anxiety in users. It is NOT an alternative to medication or therapy.

8. How do I choose the right weight?

Your blanket should weigh approximately 10% of your body weight. Choose the weight of blanket that's closest. If you weigh exactly half-way between those numbers, choose the lighter option. Check out our weight guide at the top of the page.

9. Is the blanket machine washable? How do I clean it?

The Orbit's exterior cover is machine washable at 30º. The interior is not, and should be cleaned with a damp cloth.

10. What is the blanket made of?

Our weighted blanket, UK designed, features a washable cotton cover and an inner layer of glass nano-beads stitched into pockets to prevent clumping – like a weighted duvet.

Orbit™ Weighted Blanket: Tech Spotlight

HOW IT WORKS

Switching off stress

You may not have heard of Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT), but it’s an actual, scientific thing. With academic studies to back it up.

DPT is a calming process activated through a physical stimulus - like a hug, or the application of some sort of gentle pressure across the body. Some studies have suggested that this pressure works by helping your nervous system switch off its ‘fight or flight’ system (sympathetic) and move to its ‘rest and digest’ system (parasympathetic).

With an overall weight of 6.8 kg, the Orbit™ is a heavy weighted blanket that’s designed to replicate that feeling of soothing pressure – think of it as your ‘off switch’. A switch that helps regulate your heartbeat, relax your muscles and set your mind at ease.

NANO BEAD TECHNOLOGY

Designed for relaxation

The Orbit™ features thousands of weighted, glass nano beads stitched evenly into pockets; together they form a soothing layer that rests gently over your body – a bit like a weighted duvet – giving you a feeling of light, comforting pressure (here at Simba we see it as a sort of anxiety blanket for grown-ups).
