What’s Included in Simba’s 5-Year Accident Cover Claim Process? A 2027 Guide

Accidental stains and damage can happen even when you take reasonable care of your furniture. Our 5-Year Accident Cover is designed to provide additional protection against specified incidents affecting eligible beds and mattresses.

Understanding what the insurance covers, when to report an incident and how claims are assessed can help you make informed decisions about your policy. Here’s what you need to know about the cover and its claims requirements in 2026.

What Is Simba’s 5-Year Accident Cover?

Our Accident Cover is a standalone insurance policy covering specified types of accidental staining and damage. It is separate from our product guarantee, which addresses qualifying manufacturing faults rather than accidental incidents.

The insurance is provided by Novus Underwriting Limited on behalf of Helvetia Global Solutions Ltd, UK Branch. The policy’s full contractual conditions are contained in the insurance terms and conditions.

Cover begins on the product’s delivery date, with the expiry date recorded on your Certificate of Insurance. Certain circumstances may cause the policy to end earlier, as explained in the contractual terms.

What Types of Accidental Damage Are Covered?

The policy includes protection against specified accidental staining and physical damage.

Examples of covered staining include food, drinks, cosmetics, ink, paint, shoe polish, dye transfer, and human or animal bodily fluids. Odours to interiors caused by a stain are also included.

Covered accidental damage can include:

  • Rips, tears and punctures.
  • Burns, scratches and scuffs.
  • Dents, chips and heat rings.
  • Damage caused by pets.
  • Breakage of frame components.

What Should You Do After Discovering Damage?

The insurance requires you to make a claim as soon as possible and no later than 28 days after noticing the damage.

Once you discover an incident, you should follow the claims instructions in your policy terms and conditions. These documents govern how your claim must be submitted and what information is required.

You must also provide accurate and complete answers to questions asked as part of the insurance process. The policy requires reasonable precautions to safeguard your product and prevent further loss or damage.

Continue to follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. Using incorrect cleaning products or inappropriate cleaning methods can result in damage that falls outside the policy’s protection.

How Are Accident Cover Claims Settled?

Where a claim is accepted, the policy provides for cleaning or repairing the affected product.

If replacement parts are needed for a repair, these are sourced using the product’s original specification. This is intended to address the insured damage through an appropriate repair wherever possible.

If the product cannot be cleaned or repaired, the insurer will provide an alternative settlement. The policy does not specify that every accepted claim will result in a replacement product.

Importantly, the value of any repair or alternative settlement cannot exceed the amount originally paid for the insured product.

What Damage Is Excluded From the Policy?

Accident Cover is not intended to provide general cleaning, maintenance or protection against deterioration through ordinary use.

The policy excludes deliberate damage, ordinary wear and tear, manufacturing faults and defects, and damage or staining that gradually accumulates over time.

Other exclusions include damage or discolouration caused by sunlight, perspiration, natural hair or body oils, and inappropriate cleaning products or methods.

Damage caused by animals other than your pets is also excluded. The full terms and conditions explain all applicable exclusions.

For qualifying faults originating from manufacture, our 10-year product guarantee provides a separate form of protection, subject to its own conditions.

What Conditions Apply to the Insurance?

The policy sets out eligibility requirements that must be met.

You must be at least 18 when purchasing the policy and reside in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man. The insured product must be used for your own domestic purposes.

The product must also be new and free from damage when the insurance begins. The policy applies to products with a purchase value of no more than £20,000.

These requirements are relevant when considering whether the insurance is appropriate for your purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The value of a repair or alternative settlement cannot exceed the amount originally paid for the insured product, even where the cost of obtaining an equivalent item has subsequently changed.

The insurer advises customers to consider whether another existing policy provides equivalent protection. Purchasing overlapping insurance may mean paying twice for cover against the same types of incidents.

You can cancel within 14 days of receiving your Certificate of Insurance and receive a full refund, provided you have not made a claim. No premium refund is available if you have claimed or cancel after this period. Cancellation is handled through the retailer with your receipt or invoice.
