WHY NOT TRY OUR AWARD-WINNING SLEEP TECH?

What Fabric Makes the Best Sleepwear for a Better Night's Rest?

What you wear to bed can make a difference to how comfortable you feel through the night, particularly if you tend to get warm. Breathable fabrics, lightweight constructions and materials that manage moisture can all help create a cooler, more comfortable sleep environment. There isn't one fabric that suits everyone, so it helps to look at how different materials feel and perform before choosing your sleepwear.

Why Fabric Matters At Night

Comfort at night is closely linked to temperature. If you tend to sleep warm, lightweight and breathable materials can help air circulate rather than leaving you feeling overheated.

Moisture management matters too. Some fabrics are particularly good at absorbing and releasing moisture, while others are designed to maximise airflow. The weave and weight of a fabric can also change how it feels, which is why two products made from the same fibre can perform differently.

Muslin

Muslin is a form of cotton, but its looser, airier construction gives it a different feel from smoother cotton fabrics.

Our Soft Muslin Robe is made entirely from cotton fibres woven and stitched into four layers of muslin. The fabric is lightweight, soft and breathable, with a relaxed texture that becomes softer with washing.

Unlike a thick towelling bathrobe, the Soft Muslin Robe is designed primarily for lounging rather than absorbing water. Its light construction provides gentle warmth without the heavy feel of a traditional robe.

The robe is available in XS/S, M/L and XL/XXL and is designed as a unisex style with a roomy fit.

Cotton

Cotton is a versatile option because it's soft, breathable and available in a wide range of weaves and weights.

Our Cotton Percale bedding shows how much the construction of cotton can change its feel. Percale uses a tightly woven criss-cross pattern to create a crisp, smooth and breathable finish. Cotton fibres can also absorb and release moisture, helping maintain a cool and comfortable feel.

For sleepwear, the same principle applies: lightweight cotton can be a practical choice if you want something soft and breathable, while the exact feel will depend on how the fabric has been woven.

Linen

Linen is another material associated with cooler sleep. Pure linen has a naturally textured feel and is breathable and cool to the touch, which makes it particularly appealing during warmer weather.

Our Cool Linen bedding combines linen with Tencel to create a softer version of that naturally textured fabric. The blend contains 60% linen and 40% Tencel, bringing together the relaxed feel of linen with the softness and temperature-regulating properties of Tencel.

When choosing linen sleepwear, look at the blend as well as the main fibre. A linen blend can feel noticeably different from pure linen against the skin.

Tencel

Tencel is a wood-derived fibre used across our bedding range for its soft feel, breathability and moisture management.

Our Brushed Tencel bedding uses a simple one-over, one-under weave and is brushed to give it a smooth, velvety feel without making it fluffy. Simba describes the material as cool, breathable and moisture-wicking, making it particularly suited to sleepers who struggle with overheating.

Tencel is also blended with linen in our Cool Linen range, where it adds softness and helps with moisture-wicking and heat regulation.

For sleepwear, those same qualities make Tencel worth considering if your priorities are softness and keeping comfortable when you're warm.

Merino Wool

Merino wool also features in our loungewear range, although in footwear rather than sleepwear itself.

Our Rok Slippers combine merino wool and leather, with the materials selected for comfort and durability. The slippers are designed for indoor and outdoor wear and can be worn as part of an evening or bedtime routine.

If you're thinking about the materials you wear around bedtime rather than pyjamas alone, slippers and robes can form part of the same comfort setup.

The Weave Matters As Well As The Fibre

It's easy to focus entirely on the material listed on the label, but the way a fabric is constructed also affects how it feels.

Our bedding range is a good example. Cotton Percale is crisp, smooth and breathable, while Soft Muslin uses cotton in a much airier construction. Egyptian Cotton is woven into sateen to produce a smoother, silkier finish, while Waffle Cotton uses texture to create a warmer, cosier feel.

That means choosing sleepwear isn't simply a question of cotton versus linen or Tencel. The thickness, weave and overall construction matter too.

Matching Sleepwear To Your Bedding

Your sleepwear is only one part of your sleep environment, so it's worth considering it alongside your sheets, duvet and mattress.

Our bedding range includes several fabrics designed for different preferences. Cotton Percale has a crisp, cool feel, Egyptian Cotton offers a soft and silky sateen finish, Brushed Tencel focuses on cooling and moisture management, Soft Muslin is light and airy, and Cool Linen combines linen with Tencel.

You can explore bedding in a range of breathable and cooling fabrics in standard UK sizes from single through to super king.

Choosing your sleepwear and bedding with similar priorities in mind can help you create a setup that feels comfortable throughout the night.

FAQs

Look for lightweight, breathable fabrics and materials designed to manage moisture. Cotton, linen and Tencel can all offer these qualities depending on how they're woven and constructed.

Cotton can be a good option because it's soft and breathable. The weave matters too: our Cotton Percale bedding, for example, uses a criss-cross weave to create a cool, crisp and breathable finish.

Tencel is a fibre made from wood-derived cellulose. Simba uses it in Brushed Tencel bedding and blends it with linen in the Cool Linen range because of its soft feel, breathability and moisture-management properties.

Yes. Our Soft Muslin Robe is made from four layers of 100% cotton muslin and is designed to be lightweight, soft and breathable. It's intended primarily for relaxed mornings and evenings rather than as an absorbent towelling robe.

Our range includes several options for warmer sleepers, including cool and breathable Cotton Percale, moisture-managing Brushed Tencel, lightweight Soft Muslin and Cool Linen, which blends linen with Tencel for softness, moisture-wicking and heat regulation.
