WHY NOT TRY OUR AWARD-WINNING SLEEP TECH?
The average mattress takes more than 100 years to biodegrade. So when there’s 167,000 of them going to landfill every year, it’s not a good look. According to The National Bed Federation, only 14% of mattresses get fully recycled every year, but our planet shouldn’t have to pay for our sleep.
Our products are always designed with their end in mind, to elevate their chances of a second life. This means designing them so they’re easy to repurpose, selecting transparently sourced materials – including some recycled ones. Building to take apart, and if we can cut emissions in the process? Even better. So we make locally where possible. Take our mattresses; crafted in Manchester, with titanium alloy micro springs from Leeds, foam from Middleton and soft wool from Yorkshire. And we strive for no waste to landfill.
Since we launched our state-of-the-art recycling service with our trusted third partner, we’ve never looked back. And because we want to protect our planet, we take any mattress, any size; it doesn’t need to be a Simba one. We’re already making an impact; in our first year alone, we recycled 6,550 mattresses. That number will only go up. All you have to do is head to the service on our site, book a collection for £50, and we’ll come and collect it for you. That means we aim to recycle, reuse or repurpose at least 80% of your mattress, saving even more waste from going to landfill.
Founder of The Furniture Recycling Group, Nick Oettinger knows a thing or few about refurbishment; he knows it’s all about ‘saving products that can have a second life.’ So on the rare occasion a mattress is returned to us during its trial period, we test and inspect rigorously. We replace, inside and out – no corner cutting allowed. Then we sanitise to hospital standards before offering the same Simba experience back to you at a discounted price. We saved 15,620 mattresses from landfill in 2023 alone. And it’s so brilliant, we received Commended at the BRC’s Climate Action Showcase’s Reducing Waste category.
Our Hybrid® mattresses were designed for ultimate comfort using foam with our patented tech. Giving our best night’s sleep, but unfortunately bearing a heavy footprint. So we’ve made sure all the foam we use is CertiPUR® recognised, while retaining the same level of signature comfort. We’re striving for more recycled materials in our products. And by 2025, we want to halve carbon emissions by developing new, responsible foam technologies. So some materials might be new, but they’ll be sourced as responsibly as possible.
We select our wood as responsibly as possible, with many of our beds made from FCS certified sources
We’re proud to be a member of Better Cotton, whose mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.
We use CertiPUR® recognised foam in our mattresses, which means they contain no heavy metals like mercury or lead.
Selected Simba products are certified to the GRS, which certifies recycled material from the source to final product.
Fusing our signature tech with natural materials, we’re proud to say our Simba Earth range aims to give you a comfortable sleep – with a smaller environmental cost. Unique combinations of soft Cashgora wool, silk and British wool (plus springy Hampshire wool) join forces with our recyclable Aerocoil® spring technology and CoreMax™ sprung base, before being crafted without the use of glue - to create superb but durable mattresses that are designed from the outset for optimum circularity.
