How Stratos™ temperature regulation can help you sleep better

There are times when you really don’t want to turn up the heat in bed.  One of the most common obstacles to an undisturbed night’s sleep is feeling too hot or cold. Yet our temperature naturally fluctuates through the night - so what can we do to help even out our sleeping environment? The answer might be to look to the stars.

If there are any people who know what it’s like to deal with extremes of temperature, it’s astronauts. NASA developed something called “phase change technology” to help keep space suits protected against it. Inspired by that innovation, we’ve used a phase change material that’s for the Simba Hybrid® Pillows and Duvet.


Stratos™ - pretty cool innovation

The magic of Stratos™ is found in microcapsules that can be applied directly to fabric. On our bedding, it looks like tiny little dots spread across 100% breathable cotton. They respond to the temperature around them, absorbing heat when it goes up, storing it, and then releasing it back when things go cold.

So when you sleep with the Stratos side of the duvet or pillow against your skin, it will respond to your body temperature even through bed linen and sleepwear. Plus, if you do tend to run hot, both pillow and duvet contain a soft fill enriched with semi-conducting minerals that dissipate heat.

 

Breezy nights? No sweat

There are a few other things you can do to help create a cool atmosphere for sleep in your bedroom too. Turning the room temperature down to around 18°C is a good start. A warm - not cold - bath before bed will also help your core temperature drop slightly, which helps you drop off. Just keep your hands and feet nicely warm.

Choosing natural fibres like bamboo or cotton (or silk if you’re feeling really fancy) for your sleepwear can help too - or you might want to skip sleepwear altogether! A moisture-wicking fabric is also great for cooling, as it doesn’t let you stay sweaty - that’s why we’ve blended TENCEL™ with cotton in our Simba Hybrid® Performance Bed Linen.
